When my daughter fell in love with the pop culture phenomenon Wicked I was so excited. I have been a fan of the broadway show for many years. Experiencing the story through the lens of her little eyes made my heart so happy! While there are many themes throughout the beloved classic, the unexpected friendship between Elphaba and Galinda cannot be missed. Our combined love of the story, the costumes, and the magic made choosing a Wicked themed birthday party a no-brainer! We decided the theme would be Wicked 8 for her eighth birthday!

As a children’s event planner who is obsessed with little tables and chairs, I was sad when I realized she was too big for them this year. My girl is growing up and grown up tables and chairs are now more appropriate for her and her friends. Inspired by Wicked themes of friendship, confidence and individuality, I knew we could make these grown up tables just as fun! I started with color blocking pink and green linens over round tables set up in a serpentine shape. Then we added beautiful black bentwood chairs- the perfect seat at this fun Wicked table.

It doesn’t matter if you are pink or green, you are sure to love this paperware collection from Bonjour Fete, one of my go-to party stores. The subtle pink plates adorned with Wicked icons topped with a black witch hat plate with green and gold accents was stunning and fun!

My florist and I love non-traditional flower arrangements and this party proved to be one of our favorite projects to date. Every piece, from greenery to large blooms, was selected with Wicked vibes in mind. The arrangement flowing over the side of the table was a showstopper.
As our guests walked into the event space they were immediately greeted by LED marquees with beautiful cherry blossom patterned inserts. This delicate pattern was just what we were looking for to soften our look. If you want to make a statement, marquees are the ticket! Add gorgeous balloons and you’re set!

As you can see in the Wicked Good Eats Menu below, we opted typical party food (sandwiches, chips, fruits and vegetables), but there was nothing typical about this presentation. From the themed color palette to the perfect picks, I will let the photos speak for themselves.

On the Sweet Side of Oz, we served a decadent dessert bar filled with several sweet treats including brownies, fruit tarts and individual creme brûlées. The cake was inspired by the cherry blossom print we used for the menus and marquee inserts. Can you even with the hand made Elphaba hat? Yes- it is made from fondant. Incredible!

Shortly after the party started, Galinda and Elphaba arrived. They made the trip all the way from Oz to hang out with our birthday girl. Elphie and Galinda read a book to the guests just in case they didn’t know their story. They sang and danced and even helped us make glow in the dark slime at the most beautifully curated slime bar we have ever seen! The attention to detail at this slime station was unmatched. The custom slime doubled as a party activity and favor to take home. Our guests enjoyed learning a dance routine to What Is This Feeling?, and continued dancing the remainder of the party!
